F.A.Q.

How did you get started in photography? I've been taking pictures for as long as I can remember. I got my very first Pentax when I was 16. I'm almost 30 (eek) so that's around 14 years or so?  I started in film. That was my first love. I used to only buy black and white, because I loved the photo-journalistic effect of it, and, well,  I thought I was too cool for color. Feel free to laugh. :) It wasn't until 5 years ago, though, when my husband bought me a Nikon D40 for my birthday that I really became obsessed.  Bless him. Little did he know it would become the gift that he would be continually be investing in for years and years to come. Lenses, filters etc. are normally the only types of gifts I ask for when it comes to Christmas, birthdays, anniversaries, Wednesdays...you get the picture. (pun intended) Along and along I photographed anything that would stand still kids, engagements, animals, second shot weddings, newborns to gain experience and practice, although I never considered jumping in and making it my living until just recently. They say, "Do something you love, and you'll never work a day in your life." Its true.

Are you formally trained? If you don't count research, second shooting, forums, groups, workshops, and the various mentors I owe SO much to, I'm 110% self taught.

How much do you charge? I like to keep pricing simple and straight forward. I know we're all not millionaires, but custom portraits ARE an investment, and I want to make sure they are well worth every dime you spend, from the quality of the photos to the customer service. I tell my clients to expect to spent at least $400 for a portrait investment. I have been a client as well, and at first, to me that seemed a lot. But when I think of all the things I (cumulatively)  spend $400 on...clothes....makeup...magazines...electronics...etc.  I realized that this is an investment that **never** depreciates. Ever. Portraits ONLY become MORE valuable as time goes on. Portraits aren't just pictures on a wall. It's a tangible way of freezing time, a feeling, an event, a memory. Well, well worth the money. As for my specific prices, you can find information on that under the "investment" tab here on the blog, or just email me. I looove emails. :)

Where are you located? I am primarily based out of Register, GA. That's where my home studio is. I do travel all over though.  I regularly conduct sessions in Baxley, Statesboro (only 10 miles away), Vidalia, Valdosta and Savannah.

What is "natural-light" photography?
Without getting too technical, it's just like it says. I take photographs utilizing natural light, or as its sometimes referred to as "available light". I have nothing against studio lights, and do in fact have it available should the sun decide not to cooperate ;), it's truly a personal preference, and I just like the look of it better.

Do you have a studio? If you count my home, yes. :) I do have an in home studio of sorts, but again, I use natural light most of the time, outside, and in the instance of newborns, I usually go to the client, instead of them having to come to me. I find that babies are happiest in their home environment.

What should we wear? Ahhh the #1 question!! And I love to get involved in this!!! I'm allll about styling it up for a shoot. I can't give a general answer to this question, because it varies from session to session, but that's what makes custom photography so awesome! It's truly tailored to give the best representation of who *you* (or your children, family, etc.) are!

Ok! So that about sums it up, right? Wrong? Well, I'm an open book :) So feel free to email me and ask me any other questions your little heart desires.
